Upon completion of your tattoo, your artist will clean and cover the area.
If you have been wrapped with cling film, you will need to remove this after approx. 4 hours and begin to follow the wash/cream steps below. Re-cover your tattoo again afterwards and follow these steps multiple times daily for four days.
If your artist has used a second skin wrap (adhesive bandage), this is designed to stay on for up to four days. Your artist may provide you with an extra piece of second skin to take with you, in case it begins to fall off or needs replacement. Within the first 24 hours, you will notice a range of possible changes, including fluids building up inside your wrap. This fluid is blood plasma/ excess ink and is harmless to your tattoo. After 3-4 days you will need to remove your wrapping with warm water and an antibacterial soap, this will help to lubricate the adhesive and gently remove the film.
Washing And Aftercare Cream
Once the bandage is removed, please wash and thoroughly clean your hands with a fragrance free, antibacterial soap (example: Carex). Using your fingers, warm water and your antibacterial soap, gently wash your tattoo. Do not use a cloth or scrub. The area may feel tender to touch for the first few days. Allow your tattoo to air dry or gently pat dry with a clean paper towel. Once your tattoo is dry, you can apply a very small amount of fragrance-free moisturiser. Your artist can advise you on brands to use. Do not use Vaseline/Savlon/Sudocrem to heal your tattoo. You will need to repeat the wash and cream process approx. 3 times daily for about 10-14 days. Unless explicitly instructed by your artist, you will not need to re-cover your tattoo.
Your tattoo may begin to form a scab during the healing process, do not pick at this area. Keep the scab clean and moisturized and allow it to fall off naturally.
